Tea Picking, Tasting & Original Tea Making Experience (Day Trip Plan – 20,000 JPY)

An authentic experience in Uji’s historic tea fields, boasting an 800-year legacy!

・Tea Picking & Tea Tasting in the Fields

Walk to a misty, hidden tea plantation where you will hand-pick tea leaves yourself. In a specially arranged seating area within the tea fields, you will experience a tea tasting session, comparing two famous varieties, Okumidori and Yabukita, along with Bancha (Hōjicha)—a traditional tea enjoyed by generations of local tea farmers.

・Hand-Rolling & Original Tea Making Workshop at a Tea Factory

Experience the traditional “hand-rolling” method of tea-making passed down in Uji. You will also have the opportunity to create your own unique tea blend by adjusting the rolling technique. (Tea picking experience is available until November)

Hand-Rolled Uji Tea & Tea Chef Experience – Enjoying Tea Porridge in the Aroma of Mist (Overnight Plan – 50,000 JPY)

An immersive overnight program at an authentic tea factory that was once in operation.

・Fresh Tea Leaf Hand-Rolling Experience

Learn the traditional method of hand-rolling freshly steamed tea leaves, from rolling to drying, while receiving expert guidance. Afterward, you will taste the tea you have processed. Pre-prepared tea leaves will also be available for immediate brewing. In addition, you will enjoy activities from the day trip plan, such as tea picking, tea tasting in the fields, and original tea making.

・Tea Chef Experience

In the evening, participate in a unique cooking session using locally sourced tea leaves. You will prepare and enjoy a special tea-infused dinner, including handmade cookies and granola. The following morning, you will experience making tea porridge, a local delicacy prepared using Bancha (Hōjicha), which has been traditionally made in this region known as the “misty hidden valley.”

①Tea Tasting in the Tea Fields

Enjoy a guided tea tasting that highlights the unique flavor differences of Kabusecha based on brewing temperature—hot, warm, cold-brewed, and ice-brewed.

You will also have the rare opportunity to taste Hōjicha (Bancha), a tea traditionally consumed only by local tea farmers.

②Tea Hand-Rolling & Processing Experience

Try the hand-rolling tea processing method using a traditional Takemi bamboo sieve.

You will also learn about Japanese tea production while grinding raw tea leaves into a fine powder using a stone mill.

Additionally, you will get hands-on experience packaging tea products and crafting a miniature tea box.

③Tea Chef Experience

Savor locally sourced Kamo Town rice cooked with Bancha, creating an authentic tea porridge—a delicacy that can only be found in this region.

You will also try making tea salt using powdered green tea.
